KOVAR (Kovar alloy) is an iron-nickel-cobalt-based alloy (with a typical composition of 29% Ni, 17% Co, and a surplus of Fe). Due to its coefficient of thermal expansion highly matching that of borosilicate glass (about 5-10 ppm/K), it has become the core material for glass-metal seals.
